Shellbourne Conference Center is a retreat and conference center in Valparaiso, Indiana that needed to expand and update their kitchen, dining rooms, and priest living quarters. They chose Raffin Construction as the general contractor to work with their architect in the design of the facility expansion. Raffin worked specifically with their selected MEP contractors to design systems that would work within the limitations imposed by the existing building structure and MEP systems. This saved Shellbourne time and money.
The project included a two-story addition and renovation of the existing kitchen and priests’ study. The kitchen renovation included a completely new commercial kitchen, serving areas, and support space for kitchen staff. The new dining room featured cathedral ceilings and exposed wood beams, wood wainscoating, and large stained glass windows. The priests’ quarters were expanded to include an additional bedroom, two chapels, an outdoor roof terrace, and a remodeled study.
