Project Overview

The City of East Chicago's Veterans Park has just about everything a city park needs: a playground, basketball courts, a recreation center, and plenty of green space. It was only missing a veterans monument to complete a park dedicated to the city's veterans. The City of East Chicago worked with Raffin Construction as general contractor to complete a veterans monument in an unused green space.

The monument consists of a semi-circular wall that holds placards with the names of local veterans. A fountain sits in the middle of the semicircle and a concrete walking path leads to another stone monument commemorating Emilio Albert De La Garza, Jr. De La Garza was a marine Vietnam War veteran who sustained fatal injuries in combat with Viet Cong fighters. He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions that saved the lives of two fellow Marines.
